Our approach

During a Personalized Dental Hygiene Treatment, professional dental hygiene appointments are planned according to individual clinical needs, ensuring that the patient maintains good oral health.

Professional dental hygiene check-ups are required to monitor a patient's oral health and allow to constantly adapt both equipment and techniques to the patient's clinical needs.

Frequently asked questions

What is dental hygiene?
It is the removal of bacterial plaque from teeth and gums using proper techniques and tools. Plaque is the main cause of gum inflammation and periodontal disease (periodontitis or “pyorrhea”).
Is dental hygiene important?
Yes! It is the only method that prevents cavities and many oral diseases.
What is periodontitis?
It is a severe gum infection that begins with bleeding and continues with swollen and inflamed gums that can result in tooth loss. Periodontitis (pyorrhea) is the leading worldwide cause of tooth loss (W.H.O. data).

It is directly responsible for many systemic diseases, and it is an aggravating factor in many others, such as in patients with diabetes or cardiovascular problems. Periodontitis can also cause gynecological disorders and complications in pregnancy.
How can periodontitis be prevented?
Through dental homecare, strictly following the advice on the use of the tools and techniques that the dentist and hygienist customize for each patient during professional dental hygiene sessions.
What is professional dental hygiene?
Professional dental hygiene is carried out during sessions in which the hygienist removes plaque and tartar from teeth, and also selects the most suitable tools and effective techniques for the patient to use (such as the personalized use of toothbrushes, floss, and interdental brushes), while also teaching the proper maneuvers to perform at home during dental homecare.
Should professional dental hygiene be completed with polishing?
Yes! If roots are polished, they hold less bacterial plaque, and it is, therefore, easier to remove microscopic tartar residue with special tools.
Is one dental hygiene session enough?
No! In more complex cases, several appointments are needed so that, based on the results obtained, the hygienist and dentist can reassess the techniques and tools recommended for maintaining proper oral hygiene. The frequency and number of hygiene sessions in the clinic are scheduled based on the individual needs of the patient.
What damage does gum recession cause?
Receding gums uncover root dentin and expose roots to cavities, causing them to become sensitive to heat and cold. (Dentin is less resistant than the enamel that covers the surface of the teeth.)
Why do gums recede?
The causes of gum recession are many. The main cause is inadequately removed bacterial plaque, but also improper use of toothbrushes and floss. Different gingival biotypes make gums more or less resistant to bacterial plaque damage.
What do we do when gums recede?
We prevent damage to exposed roots by protecting them with a fluoride prophylaxis.
When are gingival grafts performed?
We perform gingival grafts when gingival recession is very pronounced and exposes roots, causing blemishes to front teeth and sensitivity to heat and cold. We also perform gingival grafts on back teeth when gingival recession exposes one or more roots, compromises tooth vitality, and causes sensitivity.
What are the causes of halitosis?
There are various causes for halitosis: from inflammation to gum infections (periodontitis), to gastric problems and systemic health conditions, as well as specific bacteria that colonize the tongue and create a habitat where they reproduce, leading to that characteristic unpleasant odor.
How do we treat halitosis?
Through a dental hygiene program that treats periodontal disease, using specific tools and techniques for cleaning the tongue on a regular basis, and also medication.
